A multi-stage international hackathon focused on AI and digital innovation in energy systems, designed around sustainability, green transition, carbon reduction, and ESG-aligned impact.
The event brings together students, mentors, academicians, and industry stakeholders from India and Russia to work on practical challenges across oil and gas, power systems, renewables, and future energy transitions.
It is built to help participants move from ideas to credible solution thinking by combining technical collaboration, real-world relevance, and international visibility on one platform.
Digital transformation across oil, gas, power, and renewable energy systems.
Carbon reduction, energy efficiency, and stronger ESG outcomes through data-driven solutions.
Operational safety, reliability, and scalable innovation aligned with future energy transitions.
Practical problem-solving experience, stronger project portfolios, mentorship, exchange pathways, internships, and international recognition under the BRICS collaboration platform.
Participants register, collaborate in teams, and work on problem-solving and early concept development under expert guidance.
Shortlisted teams refine feasibility, technical scope, and ESG value with deeper mentoring and evaluation.
Finalists present their work on an international stage for top-level evaluation, recognition, and global exposure.
Real energy-sector problems that demand usable digital thinking, not just theoretical ideas.
Mentorship, exposure, portfolio strength, and access to academic and industry opportunities.
It combines bilateral collaboration, energy-domain relevance, and ESG-led innovation in one structured format.

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology
A premier Institution of National Importance shaping the next generation of leaders, researchers, and innovators for the global energy sector.

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), established under the RGIPT Act, 2007, is an Institution of National Importance built on the academic rigor and ambition associated with the IIT ecosystem. It stands as India's flagship institute focused exclusively on petroleum, energy, and allied research.
As the official host institution for the hackathon, RGIPT brings together advanced laboratories, high-caliber faculty, and deep engagement with leading industry stakeholders including ONGC, Indian Oil, BPCL, HPCL, and GAIL, creating a serious platform for high-impact innovation.
RGIPT anchors the Indo-Russian hackathon with academic credibility, research infrastructure, expert mentorship, and strong industry alignment, ensuring ideas move beyond concepts toward real-world energy solutions.
A detailed breakdown of how the hackathon progresses from individual registration to the international finale.
Expanded overview
Students only need to register individually on the website. Once registered, they can enter the hackathon flow without needing a pre-formed team.
Team formation will happen on Dion, and we will share the link to join it later. Participants with technical knowledge and participants from non-technical backgrounds are both welcome because the goal is to build balanced, cooperative teams across diverse skill sets.
During 17 to 18 March, teams will work through the online preliminary round, collaborate remotely, and submit their ideas or prototypes for evaluation.
Why this format works
This stage lowers the entry barrier, keeps registration simple, and helps create stronger teams by mixing students from different domains instead of rewarding only pre-built technical groups.
We verify impact, not just code. Projects are assessed on a balanced matrix of innovation, feasibility, and clarity.
Depth of understanding & relevance.
Technical feasibility & architecture.
Real-world application potential.
Novelty of the approach.
Beyond the hackathon. We are building a long-term ecosystem for energy innovation and cross-border collaboration.
